Starter Motor Cover

Quick question - should a Sprint starter motor have a cover of sorts over the end of it where terminals are? Mine has a loose rag currently doing a shoddy job of keeping everything dry/clean.

It should have a little square of asbestos with a silver backing which is attached to a spring type clip that attaches to the solenoid.

Nah, the standard one is nothing like so comprehensive, only partly protects the solenoid and wiring, I had one but sold it!

There are a number of universal heat shields available on Ebay or the usual tuning firms. Usually an heat proof sheet that wraps around the starter with ties to fix it.
Not a very good picture of mine looking end-on at the new starter, but you get the idea.
