Sprint Project Advice

#1 Post by Sprint seeker »

Hope this is the right place to post this. I'm doing a project to produce a sprint from several doner vehicles. Will post something onto the project page as soon as possible. I'm bound to have plenty of questions!

At the moment can anyone help me on the following :

1. I have 2 speedos that are very similar and want to make sure one or both are sprint parts. One has more numbers than the other. One shows MPH speeds of 10,30,50,70,90,110,130. With lines for the in between speeds and a line for 140 MPH. The other shows the numbers every 10 MPH up to 140. Apart from that they look identical.

2. I'm reconditioning the wood door trims and the wood in the dashboard. The door trims need stripping back as the varnish has cracked and peeled. Was thinking of using bees wax (if I can get coloured) to replace the colour. The dashboard wood is pretty good with just a small amount of bleaching along the edge. Can this be touched up? If so, with what?

Cheers

PS I tried to upload pictures but failed!

Both are Sprint speedos. The one with figures every 10 MPH is the early type (up to about 1975 IIRC), and the other is the later type.

For the door cappings and dashboard, I would strip the laquer and use a wood dye to get all of it to the same colour. Colron and Blackfriars do very good wood dye. Once you are happy with the colour, I would apply a product called Rustins Plastic coating. It is a two part clear laquer that produces an excellent finish and is very durable. I used it on some burr walnut door cappings and dash pieces for my Sprint many years ago, and we often apply it to timber worktops.
