Three rail gear lever kit ?

#1 Post by Steve28 »

Can anyone recommend a three rail gear lever repair kit that will not break up within six months like the one i previously bought.
(are all the ones available from various suppliers from the same manufacturer ?)

I have seen OE kits turn up at stoneleigh.
But as it seems to be just a couple of little rubbers that go on original kits, I have wondered if they are available or makeable in polyurethane.
As to the gearstick ball, a good original one? even if used should last indefinitely. (never had one fail)

I've only seen 2 of those balls fail in 45 years of working on Triumphs. Back in the days when I would be putting 1 or 2 of those kits in per MONTH, I would often not bother replacing the ball since there was nothing wrong with it.
Fitchetts used to supply kits in OE packaging, but whether they still have such stocks, I couldn't say.

The original bits with the gearbox were worn so i bought the full kit from fitchetts which just basically disintegrated
even the ball split, so i fitted the old bits back along with some flbre washers to stop it rattling but its in need of something better now.

I bought one from Canleys some years ago.
Never had any problems.

I too have had one of these kits from Moss and have had no issues with it.

You need to put some grease on the gear lever "ball" bit for best results.

The little nylon bits do wear again after a while...about 30k miles worth. One at the lever base and the other that joins the 2 rods.
