Hi,
As usual I need your advice
Today I took my Sprint out on its first outing since some big-ish work was done.
It now steers really well, thanks to a re-bushed column, a rebuilt steering rack and a top notch wheel alignment.
It also stops well too, thanks to new fluid and new TRW pads.
And since a carburettor rebuild, it performs great too.
However, when on a run in the country, it wont return to the usual 750RPM idle speed.
It wont come down from about 1,200 -1,500 RPM. I find this really strange considering when I get it up to temp in my driveway or garage, it idles nicely at 750RPM.
Now, in the 4 years that I've owned it, this car has always done this, and I figured that by putting one of Burlens kits through it, including re-bushed shafts, it'd stop. But it hasn't. Its still as annoying as ever.
Consequently, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I've attached an image of Daisy keeping good company on today's 125kms run to Mystery Bay beach for lunch.
Cheers,
Rob

Re: Idle speed prob & good company
First, a quick question, are your carbs of the originally Waxstat type and do they still have the little "poppet" valves in the throttle butterflies? If so, solder them shut! This may help or fix the problem.
Other causes are wear and stiffness in the bit of linkage the throttle cable attaches with the nylon bush running on an eccentric, slight misalignment of the intercarb linkage and maladjusted fast idle screws on the choke. That last one is unlikely on your car though since it normally precludes a low idle at any time.

Re: Idle speed prob & good company
Thanks for answering Steve.
They're not Waxstat carbs and the butterflies are solid.
The throttle progression lever has just been re-built and there's no problem there. (Except for the nylon bush. Maybe its not rotating......I'll check it this morning)
The inter-carb linkage has been gone over and over several times without anything glaringly obvious.
I'll keep working on it until its OK. When an annoying problem presents itself I'm a bit like a dog with a bone until its fixed....hence this thread.
Thanks again,
Cheers,
Rob

Re: Idle speed prob & good company
You may well have done this but when it is revving have you tried loosening the throttle and choke linkages.
