strength of Pony awd box

#1 Post by Boost All The Dollys »

have been on a quest to make a unique dolly and have settled on using the pony gearbox that will bolt into my 1500tc, just don't know the strength of the gear box ass ill be modding my engine a fair bit to get some decent power and I don't want a expensive and rare gearbox to shatter beyond repair

No centre diff and quite weak.

Stick with 2wd for now. A 1500fwd would be a better start point to go 4wd. You have a TC which is rwd.

So does that mean it's a solid axle up front?

No, it means no diff between the front and rear axles, only use 4WD on loose surface

I don't think the 1500 FWD has a longitudinal transmission tunnel, which would make it more challenging to convert to 4WD. The FWD rear anti-roll bar, also lacks the downward curvature to clear a propellor shaft; something I discovered MANY years ago, when trying to source a rear anti-roll bar for my Triumph Toledo.

There is no difference between a Dolomite, and 1500fwd shell, both have a prop tunnel.

The 1300 FWD doesn't have much in the prop tunnel area.
