Just a thought to be careful cutting too much off at once before you put in new on the other side.
I'd replace the cill and wing on one side before cutting off the other just to keep it stiff.
You dont want it distorting.

Is that plug welding to simulate the original spot welds Rich?
There are some MOT places that interpret the regs to mean it has to be seam welded.
Not sure about this myself....but it looks good.

You can plug weld wherever a previous spot welded seam existed. Anywhere else, 1" of weld in every 4" of join is the MOT minimum "however, continuous seam welding is acceptable" unquote!
But as far as the sill diaphragm panel is concerned, do it how you like, as long as it's strong! Nobody is going to see it to criticise once the outer is on!
It looks to me as if Richard has just tacked it on in the photos to make sure it's correctly positioned, before stitching it on fully.

Looks good....the panel gap on the rear door is notoriously difficult to get right.

Nice work. Looks like a big job.
My chassis leg was plug welded, no problems at MOT time, I think it is also stronger than just seam welding.
Auto-dimming helmet improves your welding 100% if not more, helps stop Arc eye aswell.

Thanks guys. The panel gap on the back door is terrible at the bottom as that is where the micra dented it in. Will be ok though:) welding mask and welding mole grips arrived today. Along with some flap discs for the grinder and 5 litres of wax oil. Couple of small patches left on this side now then off to the other side. Wish me luck haha
