HELP - Sprint engine sitting too high

#1 Post by simonhorton »

I've put the engine back in my car , and the engine seems to sit too high
When looking across the wings , the oil filler cap is higher than the top of the wings ?

Is it possible to fit the rubber mounts upside down ??

Any help much appreciated

Thank you

Rubber mounts no - but engine mounting bracket yes - there is a slot cut out (half a circle) in the bracket these should be facing upwards and be nearest to the radiator. As for the brackets the largest (in size) should be on the nearside and the smallest (in size) on the off side .

See attached picy.

So the bracket on the right hand side of the picture fits on the off side and the other on the left hand side of the picture fit on the near side.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the reply
I have my metal engine mounts the correct way around and on the correct sides

Is it possible that the rubbers studs are slightly offset from centre were the studs go through the engine mounts
IE - if you turn the rubber mount around 180 degrees the studs would be higher / lower than the centreline ??

I'll try and send a pic later today

Many thanks Simon

Are you sure it is definitely higher, have you put a straight edge across it?

I thought mine was when I first looked, the filler cap ends up in one of the recess parts of the bonnet, it is very close, my bonnet has press lourves in that area & I can see how close the cap is, will try & get a picture for you.

Otherwise have you fitted new engine mounts, there has been some talk on here of them being very hard, so maybe they are not sagging as much as the originals, if so try putting the old ones back on.

Have you got the engine steady bar fitted to the exhaust manifold bracket, did that fit ok?

I second what Tony says above; take a bonnet off any Sprint and you wonder how it didn't interfere with the filler cap!
