Ted is now living in a residential care home.
He has conspired with his step-daughter to involve me in helping clear his garages, which is something of a daunting task, whilst being a serendipitous journey of discovery at the same time! There is a desire for parts to go where they are needed, whilst raising funds to help with the costs of Ted's care. So this is how it will work:
Ebay is too much bother and the commission they and paypal take is becoming unacceptable. I have collected the first car load of parts and will create a listing in the parts for sale section entitled Ted's Stuff. I will display photographs of what is available and will invite best offers for a set period by private message up to a deadline for each group of items; say a week. After the deadline I will let the highest bidder know they have 'won' and arrange payment and delivery with them. Payment will be by two cheques; the first will be the winning bid, payable to Mrs M Lancaster-Crook (Ted's step daughter who has Power of Attorney over his affairs) and the second will be to cover the carriage charged at cost made payable to me.
This is the fairest and simplest method I can think of, giving everyone equal opportunity, whilst getting the best deal for Ted without having to invent prices for everything. I've photographed some items tonight, so will post the first of them hopefully tomorrow....

I've never met Ted, but wish him only the best.
The auction style is good, but a periodic update of the current bidding amount can only generate possibly another bid,

Yes....
That sounds like an excellent idea and well done for taking this on Alun.
I like the idea of the silent bids.
Will you reveal the value of the "winning" bid each time?
Hope this goes well. Being a long time Dolomite owner I do feel as if I know Ted having read articles (technical tips) in club magazines and
also seeing him skirling the tyres of his Sapphire blue Sprint on an episode of Top Gear
