Would anyone be interested in..........
A running, driving, totally rust free, Dolomite Sprint for somewhere in the region of £30?
Having got your full attention, I have to tell you you won't be able to get in cos the doors don't open!
I have recently had a resurgence of interest in my childhood hobby of slot car racing (NOT "Scalextrix", that is like calling a model railway a "train set") mainly because my daughters twin boys will be needing it in the next 3 years or so!
Many hours of searching ebay later, I have the makings of an extensive track system and, quite by chance, have come across a guy who makes a 1/32nd scale replica of a Dolly Sprint in cast resin. or rather 2 models, 1 of the Andy Rouse gp1 car and one of the Derek Bell big arch Gp2 car. The latter comes with a detailed decal pack of the Unipart livery.
I have another model made by him of a Le Mans Spitfire and it is remarkably detailed and looks very nice so I imagine the Dolomite will be equally good. I have asked him if he can supply some photos of the model, till they come through, I am just trying to guage interest.
So would anyone else be interested in one of these? If I can get a number of orders in hand, it will be worth him running off a batch of what is currently an out of production model. Even if never used on a track, it would make a nice shelf model, simply by leaving the slot guide off.

I'm using old Airfix track but the cars will run on Scalextrix, Ninco, Carrera and others too. With the appropriate module they can even be uprated to the newfangled digital control.richard4040 wrote:Just to double check that they wouldn't run on scalextric track?:(

This is the one i made from a resin kit a year or so ago. Think it was Ocars Replicas that did the kit, but not 100%..

If that is the Andy Rouse Oulton park car, it's almost certainly the one. The guy trades on ebay as Classicslotkits. Nice innit? Shame it's on Minilites though!

Thats the one...
Word of caution thought, the kits need a fair bit of fettling, they are not as simple as an airfix kit, for example.. you have to make certain areas fit properly. Worth the effort though, and if you use a PCS32 Chassis they are quite fast.

I have one of those chassis with my Spitfire kit - and it was obviously designed for a Dodge Charger! Even at full compression it's a half inch too long a 1/4" too wide and the axles are the best part of an inch too long. It's nothing that can't be fixed though, these low volume kits are a bit like GRP panels on the real thing, you expect to have to do a bit to make it work right. And somehow, that makes the finished article even more satisfying! Back in the day (mid to late 60s) I used to scratchbuild my own chassis from brass tube and plate and use the then popular vacuum formed ultra light clear plastic bodies that you painted on the inside. It seems you can't get those bodies any more and handmade chassis, even old half busted ones are silly money on ebay, on the rare occaisions they appear (might be a business opportunity there)

Once I get my track set up on a baseboard, it would be kinda cool to take it to one or two of the indoor shows and race our Dolomites on it!
