NWL – Project Concours Carmine Sprint
Re: NWL – Project Concours Carmine Sprint
I think I figured out what the problem is, I think the eyebrow is hitting the repair plate.
I'll remove it tomorrow and try a refit.

Re: NWL – Project Concours Carmine Sprint
No son buenas noticias on the eyebrow front!
The problem I have is that to get the eyebrow in I have to remove my inner valence repair. The eyebrow is grp so when I weld the inner valence in there's a very real risk of me damaging the grp eyebrow.
Not to worry, it's a bank holiday weekend next weekend and I have a solution....

Hablas Espanol también! Soy medio Espanol, embarrassingly can't speak it fluently though.
Think I've got confused here, I've assumed when reading on the forum that the 'eyebrow' is the overhang/lip at the top of the lights, but I've a feeling looking at your pictures that I'm labouring under a misapprehension!

Re: NWL – Project Concours Carmine Sprint
The eyebrow is a reinforcing panel that fits under/inside the top panel and the front edge of the wing - the one towards the top of these photos that has a semi-circular cut-out in its edge:
In this photo the eyebrow still has the rusty remains of where it curves down the inside of the front of the wing ...

... whereas James has neatly removed that part in this photo:

Re: NWL – Project Concours Carmine Sprint
Thats it, I wanted to use the club grp ones and just tigerseal them in but because I have to weld so close I run the risk of them being damaged.
Regardless of them being GRP or original to get the eyebrows in with the panel in place you have to carefully bend the inner lip of the front valance down. It looks scary but should go back as good as new with a bit of hammer and dolly work.
In an ideal world you would remove the wings to do this but I dont want to disturb the seams or visible spot welds.
I'll get some photos up and you'll see what I mean.

Ho about a Rimmers eyebrow cut to match the bit of yours that's rusted and join it at the top to your old one?
I agree f/g will last better in this rust trap area but like you say how are you going to weld so close to it?
Thanks for the clarification P....I was a bit confused about what was going on here too...

I want to see how they fabricate them especially the corners which are a complicated shape, hopefully I can just copy them. Failing that I'll just cut off the ends and use them if they fit ok.
Yeah, sorry I wasnt being very clear. Thanks for the clarification P....I was a bit confused about what was going on here too...

Ah-ha! Thanks Pippin, that makes more sense, I've consulted an expert on such matters, and we wouldn't have called that an eyebrow, more of a side brow!Pippin wrote:The eyebrow is a reinforcing panel that fits under/inside the top panel and the front edge of the wing...

Standard issue BLMC ouija board, part number SP0666, found it in the glove box next to that "Your passport" booklet, don't you have one?

I used to have one of those, but traded it in for a direct line to the heavens, BT wired it direct to sod and I can't cancel the contract.Galileo wrote:Standard issue BLMC ouija board, part number SP0666, found it in the glove box next to that "Your passport" booklet, don't you have one?
They also wired up the broadband to the netherealm, keeps cutting out.

Re: NWL – Project Concours Carmine Sprint
Rimmers' eyebrows are approximations, constructed by folding, welding and inserting small sections, whereas the original parts were one-piece pressed panels. Unfortunately, the photos of Rimmers' eyebrows don't make it easy to see how the curved section that runs down the inside of the wing is constructed:James467 wrote:I want to see how they fabricate them especially the corners which are a complicated shape, hopefully I can just copy them. How about a Rimmers eyebrow cut to match the bit of yours that's rusted and join it at the top to your old one?

Also, buying a Rimmers eyebrow isn't a cheap fix.

You could use one of these to replace or repair your NS one, or as a template to create a repair panel. Your OS panel may be ok, or if not, you could use one of these to make a reverse template for that side.oily66 wrote:I have a pair of them unfortunately they are for the same side.
