I think my radiator is too big.....?

Yes…..

Tony, the heater does work well but this isn't really the season to judge it :) .
Not using the Controller anymore so the pump is running all the time.

The engine is very noticeably more free revving and the pick up, even from slow engine speeds,
is very positive.
It comes up to temperature promptly.

Wonder how long the pump will last?

You could always have a mechanical pump conversion. I believe there are ready to fit kits available.

An update......

#79 Post by sprint95m »

Comes up to temperature quickly. Sits at just below halfway on the gauge.

During the coolant filling process a little air got trapped in the top of the radiator, this was expelled (through the radiator vent)
after a few minutes driving once the engine was up to temperature.

Can't believe how different the car is to drive now, will pull away smoothly from 20mph in top!

Ian, would it worth now getting the controller back into action? It cant overcool as running the pump full time would have the lowest temp I imagine? Is the pump running in order to keep the heater flow consistent?
Coincidently, I ran mine 20 miles yesterday and 40 today to test the new in tank fuel pump and it ran at normal or a tad below and heater was warm all the time. I just missed the rain :)

Okay.......

In my opinion there is nothing to be gained by fitting a Controller, Tony.
The heater seems to produce heat almost straightaway but I will reserve judgement on this until when it turns to winter.

What cooling set up are you running now, Tony?

Just thinking of pump life really. Mine is still as it was. Controller set at 85. No bypass from manifold to pump cover (core plugged) heater return plumbed pre pump and heater IN from back of head. No stat but a ring of a stat to reduce flow slightly. Maybe the relatively mild weather here kept it more stable?

not to throw my hat in the ring but couldn't you run a two phase thermostat like for a fan but rather than run it to ground, run the ground lead through a resistor and then to the pump and the other outlet straight to pump so there's an idle speed and a higher speed for when the engine gets hot?
So many ideas... So little budget... So little time.

Yes but......

Why?

If you are stuck in traffic having the water pump running at a higher speed than normal is an advantage surely?

Just so it would act like a thermostat, if the engine got hot in traffic, it would activate to cool it down
