broken sprint piston

#1 Post by cleverusername »

I have totalled a sprint piston trying to remove a siezed wrist pin to remove a knackered conrod. In short I am b***er.

My options short of making a new piston seem limited.

1)give up
2)low compression tr7 pistons, which will leave badly down on power.
3)hope I can find a tr7 piston uk spec and put some cutouts in it and hope the engine isn't too badly imbalanced.
4)buy a set of UK tr7 pistons and make my own cutouts.

Any suggestions?

Can you not source a sprint piston? I know maybe not new but surely second hand?

I've looked, but they are very rare.

How about asking James467 if he's keeping his old ones seen as his replacing them all?
Current fleet: '75 Sprint, '73 1850, Daihatsu Fourtrak, Honda CG125, Yamaha Fazer 600, Shetland 570 (yes it's a boat!)

Past fleet: Triumph 2000, Lancia Beta Coupe, BL Mini Clubman, Austin Metro, Vauxhall Cavalier MK1 & MK2, Renault 18 D, Rover 216 GSI, Honda Accord (most expensive car purchase, hated, made out of magnetic metal as only car I've ever been crashed into...4 times), BMW 318, Golf GTi MK3 16v x 3

I may have a couple of very good condition Mahle pistons.
I will have a look in the workshop store area, I had seen them there around a year ago when I looked last.

They came from Mike on here, so would be in good nick.

Thanks that would be very helpful.

Thanks for all the replies, alas I have work tomorrow so must sign off and get some sleep.

Are they standard size? I have some pistons here, possibly a set...

I kept my STD ones too. I have no intention of re-using them. A couple have wear on the thrust side, I wouldn't describe any as mint but may be serviceable for you.
