Totally agree, but I haven't gone shopping for an alternative. One of the most annoying things is seeing a really good old post which references a dead picture from an off site photo upload service. Shame that we can't encourage people to host more directly on here, but I have uploaded directly the odd small picture.

To be honest, the TDC site could well do with a little bit of a user friendly refresh, and an updated phpbb installation with things like a mobile phone friendly view, event calendars, and shopping cart system for spares, regalia and memberships too.
Current fleet: '75 Sprint, '73 1850, Daihatsu Fourtrak, Honda CG125, Yamaha Fazer 600, Shetland 570 (yes it's a boat!)

Past fleet: Triumph 2000, Lancia Beta Coupe, BL Mini Clubman, Austin Metro, Vauxhall Cavalier MK1 & MK2, Renault 18 D, Rover 216 GSI, Honda Accord (most expensive car purchase, hated, made out of magnetic metal as only car I've ever been crashed into...4 times), BMW 318, Golf GTi MK3 16v x 3

yes I agree as I would then be happy to update my build as it takes an age with photo bucket

I use this when needed. Never used any of the others to be honest.

I use Flickr. It's heavily punted by and I think it's part of Yahoo - but I hope that means it won't be pulled like so many others in the past.
It was never very fast until I upgraded my PC - turns out it was my hardware limiting the uploads, now it flies with cable internet.

I don't have any serious problems with Photobucket (yes, it can be frustrating sometimes). The reason such photos disappear is if somebody closes their account or deletes some photos because they've run out of storage space. I've just had a look at page 1 of my resto thread and my photos are still there. The reason we discourage the uploading of photos directly to the forum is because it takes up space on the forum server (which the Club has to pay for). We know that this can't be totally avoided so it is best to resize photos if they have to be uploaded directly to the forum to minimize the space they take up. I've found the sweet spot to be 1024 pixels for the horizontal size which seems to work on most monitors and you don't lose picture quality.

I know bugger all about IT and servers and I use Photobucket but I agree it is a pain in the proverbial when you have to cut and paste links and then delete the IMG part. If we have to use an external link I don't understand why it cant be at the click of a button on each picture. I am sure that's an issue with the photo site and what do I know anyway !.

Mike, the IMG link is the one to use on forum posts. There are 4 types of link available and it is a bit of trial and error at first. Once you know what you're doing its easy.

Mike, I start a new post on here, then using Flickr (and I guess most others) I simply get the photo on screen with their website, and click the share icon. It remembers the last size of photo I selected (640 x 480 seems to work well on this forum).
There are 4 tabs to choose from, I select BBCode. The link is already highlighted. I click and drag the link and drop it straight into my new post.
That's it.
Hope this helps.

Thanks

I'll give it a try. Not sure if you can do it on Photobucket but if not I may change to another provider.
