Similar idea I had a while back. I haven't had time to follow up on it though. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=30123

IMHO there aren't anything wrong with the quarterlights apart from the rubbers.

I am still looking for someone who can remake them (front and rear) at a reasonable cost.

Triplex Glass in Queenborough Kent used to make a lot of one-off glass products, although they did a lot of laminated glass, not sure if they do toughened glass, Pilkington glass may be the next supplier to ask.

I'm with you on this one, I like them! I see on RB site that they used to be made by British Motor Heritage, are they the ones you are speaking too?

So worried that one day mine will have to be sealed shut due to the rubber failing that I've been researching rubber moulding!

Edit: See that the Stag Owners Club went through the same problem with sourcing the seals.

"After considering various options SOCTFL devised an innovative commercial arrangement that would make the project self-funding. This involved: -

(1) The award of grant-aid direct to the manufacturer to cover the cost of developing the tooling, production process, and experimental formulation of the rubber compound to be used;

(2) The award of exclusive marketing rights to a parts wholesaler for the first 500 pairs of product in return for a levy payable to SOCTFL on each pair. The levy was established at a level such that when 500 pairs had been sold SOCTFL would recover the full amount of its grant-aid to the manufacturer.

By October 2009 a pair of first-off production rubbers had been fitted to a car and two independent inspections of form, fit and function were successfully completed. By January 2010 the wholesaler was routinely supplying rubbers to the usual retailers and the pent-up demand had been satisfied, and by October total sales had reached 225 pairs with another 50 pairs on order."
Current fleet: '75 Sprint, '73 1850, Daihatsu Fourtrak, Honda CG125, Yamaha Fazer 600, Shetland 570 (yes it's a boat!)

Past fleet: Triumph 2000, Lancia Beta Coupe, BL Mini Clubman, Austin Metro, Vauxhall Cavalier MK1 & MK2, Renault 18 D, Rover 216 GSI, Honda Accord (most expensive car purchase, hated, made out of magnetic metal as only car I've ever been crashed into...4 times), BMW 318, Golf GTi MK3 16v x 3

Nice idea. However, with fewer of our cars left, it would take much longer for the club to recover as much money as the SOC have done, let alone reach break even with 500 sales.

I like them too, but the seals are not sealing on either side and one of the them the lower pivot has rusted away and part of it dropped into the bottom of the door. The locking lever is the thing that holds it into the frame. If they were fine and new seals affordable I probably would not be considering getting rid of them.

Yes, being a relatively small club the tooling cost for the rubbers was rather prohibitive to say the least.

You aren't alone which is why I am trying to look into a source of new ones, it's not something that has been forgotten it's just a darn difficult one to do! :D

I believe the rubbers have been produced since production of the cars stopped so what I'm trying to to is to see if anyone has either the original tooling or has had tooling made.

We have a thread on this which I will update as soon as I have more info.

Do we know whether the quarterlights are unique to our cars or are they the same as those fitted to other cars in the BL family? If so, there may be a larger market for remanufactured seals, or even another source.

Unique I am afraid.
