Now; What are the best sounds on this Earth .....
Some may say the Dawn Chorus at 5 A.M. on a warm Spring morning.
Perhaps a Bethoven symphony ?
I would maintain that after 2 hours of trying to mate a gearbox and engine on a hoist it is the "zzzzzzz- clunk" of the input shaft finally sliding through the clutch splines and into the spigot, and the bell-housing hitting the gearbox.
Result !

I'm with you on the last one when I had to fit a new clutch on the Picasso. It was good when the gearbox went back on.

My personal faves are...
1. The farting noise you get from a Morris Minor on the overrun
2. A Jaguar F-Type V8 with the exhaust loud button pressed to get all the noises going
3. Avro Vulcan on Take off
4. Bird song as you drive a convertible with the roof down on a morning drive
All mine seem to be car/plane related

Talking of planes, a rare sound nowadays as I think you only get it from a Canberra now but I used to love the distinctive sound of Avons from
Comets and Caravelles over flying on light throttle...no other jet engine sounds quite the same. Sort of haunting quavering mid pitch whistle.
Merlins or Griffons of any sort obviously.
Dart turboprops.
(Funny how Rolls Royce seems to get better sound quality than any other engine maker)
Really like the sound MGB's make - something in the way the exhaust manifold works but most seem to sound that way.
Blackbirds and Robins and Thrushes I cant split them for preference.
Katherine Jenkins singing "time to say goodbye" has to be up there....
