Headlamp Relays do them NOW

#1 Post by GTS290N »

Well, my car is never used at night, at least not very often and even then it's around town. No main beam. The main beam is only ever used to flash and let people out - again, not often.
Jeroen's superb wiring loom arrived today, and I set about making some voltage measurements before and after. This involved the engine running at idle, dip beam on, measure voltages at both headlights, main beam on, measure voltages at...........oh bother the headlights went out. Completely. No main beam warning lamp either.
Another thing to fix, hopefully........
So everyone, if you haven't got relays fitted (and ignore the tosh about 'only needed if modern halogens fitted' - this is complete and utter bull) do it now. Before, like me, it's too late.
On the "bright" side (sorry) the dipped headlamps are SO much brighter than before, I haven't yet measured the after voltages but there is a very "clear" (sorry) difference.

I second what's been said. It is worth doing even if you don't convert to halogens. I did the conversion because sealed beam units are getting harder to come by and those that are available are going for silly money.
