starter probs

Starter spins but doesn't seem to engage, what d'you reckon, worn starter gear?

Whip the starter out ( mmmm...arrgghhh) and have a look

battery is charged. Have never had the car running (and at this rate never will)
Previous owner of 42 Dolomite shaped vehicles, 14 Sprints, 12 1850s, 8 1500s, 3 V8s, 3 Toledos and 2 SEs

Dirty pinion shaft.

15 mins each way to do a starter motor! but often one of the dirtiest as that is where the mucky oil collects.
