Sprint Subframe to convert 1500TC to 1850 running gear

#1 Post by DazasDolly »

I was wondering if a sprint subframe is the same as an 1850 one

Many thanks

All but the engine mountings!

The Sprint mounts can be chopped off the frame and what you are left with is suitable for an 1850, the holes for the 1850 mounts are there. But Alun will probably kill you!

Thank you for the reply Steve.

Alun is good as gold :D I only asked as there is one on the bay finishing today very close to home.

I think an 1850 would be a worthwhile upgrade for my 1500TC as it needs an engine rebuild now as the rumbling is getting worse and I know the car inside out.

Any other ideas would be appreciated

Many thanks

Buy it, it's a bargain at £1, but before you cut it, I'm sure you can find an 1850 one. It's a bit bizarre me making a kit to convert 1850 subframes to Sprint ones if folk are then cutting bits off to convert the other way!

Alun

Totally agree

I could always drop it off at yours when I next pop up to my mums, if I have the winning bid...which I currently have.

Lets see what happens

Many thanks

I think the 1850 frame is getting rarer, since for a long time, the Sprint frame has been perceived as the only one worth saving. I got into trouble for cutting up a Sprint frame for the Dolomega! Fortunately, I have another which is, so far, unmolested and available to swap for an 1850 one which will save me 3 hours and a handful of cutting off discs as this one is also destined for a Vauxhall conversion.

Subframe has now been collected and what a bargain it was.. came complete with steering rack and alloy mounts, front arb and poly, and a few other bits and pieces attached :-) all for £1 best ebay bid I've had in years

Happy days

Cheers
