The originals are made of aluminium. If you fancy doing a proper CAD drawing and writing a programme for our 5 axis CNC machine I could probably get some made. The killer cost is the time taken to draw and setup the programme. The material cost and time taken to produce them is actually minimal.

Normal anodising might actually cause problems (embrittlement etc) . A proper anodise place will want the spec dictated to them so you are at fault if something isn't right. Hard anodising is there for surface strength/hardness and the colour they add is just a bonus really. I personally wouldn't use home done aluminium nuts,I'd go steel if nothing else was available.

You can get replacement steel sets for about £80 but what would the black finish be on steel ones that you couldn't do on aluminium ?

You'd chemi black them if they were steel.
