Sprint valve stem seals.

#1 Post by sprintchris »

Hi,

Just started building up my Sprint cylinder head, bought a set of valve stem seals some time ago from a well known supplier, and I can only describe the quality as shockingly bad! They are soft squidgy rubber, don't fit on the guides tight, the springs keep falling off and lined up they are all different shapes....so here we go again with rubbish quality!!
Has anyone else come across this? Has anyone found a good alternative? I guess so long as they have a reasonable seal on the stem and grip tight on the guide they'll be fine. Must have paid about £3 each for these and they're basically a bin job.

Some advice would be very greatly appreciated.

Chris.

My experience with dealing with said supplier, even from the other side of the world, is that their customer service and desire to sort out problems with their products is exemplary, as good as anyone else I've ever dealt with. I have had the odd issue but they have always been apologetic and found a solution for me in double quick time.

I've rebuilt a few engines using their valve stem seals though and never had any quality issues.

Email with photos of the problem or just ring them now, don't just walk away.

Alternative is mini A series. You can get turbo metro ones too at added cost. Fit straight on. A+ is the engine.

Interestingly the ones we sell at work as competition Jaguar ones are constructed with a steel case so they maintain their shape, whereas the std ones are just rubbery. I suspect they will not be quite right for a Sprint engine but we do also build A-series engines for Formula Junior cars, perhaps they are the same. I'll have to look in the stores.

Yes I have had some stem seals that could be better and the springs fall off so a good quality alternative to Chinese poo would be welcome.
