Another aussie dolly

#1 Post by Stevo »

Hi Guys - just thought I would say hi - I just purchased a mimosa dolomite sprint from a paddock - Its a 4/75 build.

It needs some rust repair and it is missing a few parts, and has a ruined dash, but it is worth saving in my opinion.

I have rust in from pillars, drivers floor and boot, but upon inspection with a camera it appears to be localised to where it is visible luckily. I guess the dry climate has saved it from oblivion.

I always wanted a sprint so it is pretty exciting.

Ill post some pictures once i copy them over.

I am in South Australia if there are any other members are around in SA I would love to hear from you :)

Cheers
Steve

I have several spare dash crashpads and wood sets, but I fear the postage might be a bit of a downer!

Good luck with the resto!

Thanks :) living down under you get used to high freight from the UK. I would be interested in the wood things, I still need to work out how bad mine are, the varnish is cracked up but the veneers may be sound...

Hi Steve,

Looks like you have your hands full, but it should come up well if you get the bits fixed up.
Was that the one advertised on Gumtree by the way?

The sun in Aus pretty much fries most plastics, leather and wood to a crisp unless its looked after but you may be able to (as you say) flat the wood back and re-varnish and have it come up good.
Im in Perth BTW...a sweltering 41 today :(

Food for thought but the AU customs HATE plant material (so that includes wood) and you may find you are slapped with a treatment cost before they release the parts (if you get them sent from the UK).
http://www.agriculture.gov.au/import/goods/timber
The treatments they may impose could be potentially damaging and costly to 40+ year old parts.
Id hate to see a perfectly good set of interior trims ruined because of the Biosecurity laws.

I dont have many spares, but sing out if you are really struggling and I can look out for you locally in WA.

Oh..and start a restoration thread as well. You`ll get lots of help with the tasks from the folks on here.

Cheers

Hi Steve

Stu (on here as Straylight) is now in Adelaide, south of the city I believe. I haven't seen him post for a while but he did a magnificent restoration that is all documented here while he was living somewhere around Lucindale from memory. He may have some parts or at least advice.

viewtopic.php?t=1795

Try sending him a 'PM' and see if he responds.

I'm in Auckland and have an ex NSW based Mimosa Sprint that came to NZ in 1996.
