1850 cylinder heads can be difficult to remove, so reading up on how Stag owners have tried it in the past, one method they use seems to be putting a bottle jack in the "Vee" between the heads and lifting the stuck head at an angle. Could a similar method be used on the 1850 by removing the carbs; and the water pipe clip and using a low profile hydraulic bottle jack at an angle under the inlet manifold ?
The manifold only has 6 UNC bolts holding it on but these could be helicoiled, but add this force to a trolley jack under the exhaust manifold and a few whacks with a club hammer on the studs, would it be enough to free it off do you think ?

The problem with this method is it exerts an uneven force on the head and would probably stress other components and if the head was put into rotation, bend the studs.
On a particularly difficult TR7 engine I was taking apart, I had sheared the front two studs flush with the head. I ended up taking the timing cover off and putting the jack between the crank end and underside of head. It worked, but I scrapped both the head and the crank. Both studs bent and the underside of the head became distorted beneath the fulcrum point.

The SOC were demonstrating this very job at Stoneleigh last year with their head removal tool. I wish I could've videoed it from start to finish. It would be useful as the left head is basically the same as on the 1850.
