Rear axle breather

Per this, page 2 axle breather info ref part 21H6060 and MIG Wielders photos:

I removed mine and it is totally different. See pictures below. It's made of metal, has a much coarser thread and can only be removed using a spanner. While it may have once had a split pin down the middle it doesn't now and is essentially just a hole facing upwards from the axle. It wasn't clogged up so no issues with the breather as such..

Do you reckon I should just put it back on as is or does it need some type of cover or split-pin plug?

It looks like that part is doing the same job as the 21H6060 ( see page 1H 06L of the parts book ) but it would be nice to see some sort of labyrinth to keep the dust and dirt out and the oil in. Maybe just one of the running changes that was introduced in production. Did they ever produce 2 cars the same ?

Thats the same as mine on my 1981 sprint, but I cant say if there was a baffle as such in there. Where its situated it shouldnt really get any dirt in there. I blew through mine easily so maybe nothing in there anyway? There may be a baffle/weir inside the case to stop oil splashing up there.
