Snap on the birthday...
Good to see the bush fitted the right way round...instead of the dutch way.

I forgot to mention that I measured the rear cylinder bores and they are 17.8mm
I can't find rear drums for less than £50 per side, it just seems a bit of a rip off.

Perhaps someone has some good used ones you can have skimmed? Alternatively are they not the same as the Morris Marina and Ital? Just a thought that this might open up some opportunities. There's some on Ebay, though some are fronts, you'll of course need a rear drum.

I don't mind putting on some new ones, I'll get them from Robsport. I'm just surprised that Rimmers sells Sprint drums for less!SprintMWU773V wrote: Perhaps someone has some good used ones you can have skimmed?
I pressure washed the inner wheel arches to see if there was any more welding than expected, they were caked in mud! Everything's fine, I expected the inner OS front valence to need a repair, I didnt expect it to literally just fall apart!

Not a problem, it's no worse than NWL and thats finished now so this should be a quick easy job using the club repair panels.
On another note, I thought I'd lost this box! Phew! Time for a workshop tidy up I think!!

It's a lovely day so the car is up in the air ready for brake reassembly.

Re: RUK - Project Recommission 1850 Auto
Newsflash!
Front brakes have been fitted!

Rust on the disc is light surface, looks worse in the photos than it really is.
A huge thanks to Tony (MIG Welder), I now have a pair of rear drums to fit. Came up well with a light coat of Hammerite to protect them.

With that I can now fit the rear brakes!
Onwards towards the MOT!

Re: RUK - Project Recommission 1850 Auto
I dream about RUK Mahesh!!
Rear brakes are mocked up but I need a shoe retaining kit as I lost one of the cup washers. I have no doubt I'll be able to find a kit at the NEC tomorrow so it's not going to hold me back, should be able to finish the hoses and fitting tonight then just whip off the springs when I have the kit.
Once I have the new master cylinder I should be able to fit it and get the brakes bled on Sunday and get the prop back in.

Why thank you sir!
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
We have rear brakes!
Just need to connect up the rear pipes, I'll do that Sunday.

I'm pretty sure I fitted the brake adjuster correctly.

Unsurprisingly the handbrake needs adjusting, but the ratchet had decided to stick so I'll have to remove the lever, bugger!

Yep, was all wired up like that when I took it apart. There's some Loctite 270 on the threads for good measure as well.tinweevil wrote:mmm, lockwire?

My mistake, I thought I could see a hole without lockwire in & completely missed the two silver stripes.James467 wrote:Yep, was all wired up like that when I took it apart. There's some Loctite 270 on the threads for good measure as well.tinweevil wrote:mmm, lockwire?

Massive brake fit fail here....
The H shaped shim is missing between the handbrake lever and the shoe. Extremely crucial and the whole shebang with handbrake and
self adjusting gubbins will not work without it.
Alun had some new ones made if yours are lost.
I take it you realise the threaded adjusters are handed for the side of car? The lever turns the wheel to make the threaded bit move outwards.
Sure you already know this but some may not...
