My son has an E92 he bought and there is a constant noise which we think is coming from the brakes as it sounds like a pad rubbing. It's an auto and running in N the noise remains so I don't think it's drivetrain. It has new pads and discs, The garage say they are bedding in but brakes I have replaced before don't make a noise. The disc has 3 thou run out so would seem within tolerance but spun slowly the brakes can be heard rubbing slightly at one point on the disc. Only think I can think of next is the caliper but it never sticks to the point the brakes are applied at all.
Any clues what else I could check before we have to talk to the garage again ?

Bit of rust on the lip of the disc bedding into the new pads?

Front or back? Don't some BMWs have the handbrake implemented as drum-style shoes on the inside of the rear discs? Could be that if nothing else is obvious.

Good call if its rears, if they changed discs and didnt get the handbrake shoes in situ properly that would do it

New discs so no rust but it is the rears. I will check out the handbrake thanks.

I've had this quite often with drum-in-disc handbrakes. BMW, Vauxhall, Volvo and Toyota all use the system (to name but a few)
The shoes are held to the backplate in just the same way Dolomite ones are, just a T shaped pin, a coil spring and a slotted cup washer. These are easily dislodged when removing stubborn rusted up old discs, especially if the adjustment is not backed off first (lazy fitters) The result is all sorts of scraping and clicking noises from the wheels. In extreme cases, I have seen the shoe linings ripped off the shoes by such clumsiness!
Kits of new retainers and springs are available for most models from any decent motor factors, fitting them sometimes requires much patience and knuckles that bend both ways!

Thanks Steve. Cant get to the car this weekend but will have a go next weekend.
If I can spin it after taking of the disc I can use a process of elimination. I just hope it is this and not something else more serious.
