Clutch slave cylinder.

#1 Post by tonybsa »

I have just had to fit a new clutch slave cylinder,as my old one was leaking.
I ordered a new one from Rimmers and it is an AP Lockheed one.
My old one was a Girling .
The new one fits and works fine.
However I have noticed that the AP one seems to be spring loaded, which means the thrust bearing seems to be in constant contact with the clutch pressure plate, which does not seem right to me.Is this normal with this type of slave cylinder?
With the Girling one, there was some freeplay which allowed the thrust bearing to clear the pressure plate.
Obviously,I am a little concerned,that I may damage the thrust bearing/prssure plate.
Any advice would be appreciated.

They all have springs but sounds like yours is too strong. Normally the spring pressure just lets the piston go back in contact with the rod and helps the bleeding process.

If your thrust bearing is in constant contact that isnt right. Are you sure the pedal spring is doing its job too?

I will have a look tommorow John, thanks.I noticed it was contacting the pressure plate even before the system had any fluid in it.
