Falling out with the f-b group

I can quite understand why certain well respected TDC members and forum users have fallen out and taken issue
with the f-b moderator's take on publicising parts availability.

Its IMHO no skin of anyone on the f-b groups nose to have this information made available to them and in my mind the moderator took an unreasonable stance in seemingly complaining about the publicity in the way he did.

However we are ALL the poorer over this kind of division, and the knowledge pool will become more diverse and fragmented
as a result, so I'd encourage a few conciliatory emails and pm's all round.

Its good to see some new blood coming up on the TDC forum too. In the mean time I'll keep waving the flag in both places.

The point is Jon, the guy is evangelical in his hatred for the Club; not only does he not want to be a member himself, he wants to actively deprive others from hearing about the Club and benefits of membership.

Whilst he holds the reins, the two are incompatible.

If we could upload photos directly from our computers to the forum, without hosting etc I believe the forum would escalate rapidly. The benefits of FB is this. We did it on the Manta forum and more posts of resto's and tips appeared overnight. For me its a pain to host pics because im not that good with it all and Im sure there are plenty of others too.

Quite timely, as I've just been told that my suggestion for an easier way of adding images to the forum has been implemented (thank you triumphdolomiteuk), look out for the blue "P Add image to post" button below the reply dialog; images hosted by Postimage.

There appears to be a freer social dialogue on Facebook than on the forum, without people getting upset. Obviously, a lot of people use Facebook and so will get reminded about the Dolomite group during their daily social media use. They really are very different beasts for that reason, as much as I actually despise Facebook (I was an early adopter, but closed my account 5 years ago), I do have an account just to be a member of the Dolomite group.

So basically you're holding to ransom anyone who wishes to buy one to join the club?

If you're not prepared to offer these items freely for sale, with no added charges, then I don't think you should be plying your wares on groups that are not linked to teh club.

Then they wouldn't need to be advertised here then if half know they existed, it p155 me right off with stuff club attitudes of well you HAVE to join the club or else, yes I'm aware that costs are involved, but any parts offered for sale on here should not come with provisos of being forced to join any club whatsoever.

I see Alun's point completely, seems hard to reconcile those statements with someone that may have the potential for warmth to TDC.

Maybe Jeroen also has a point in that thread, perhaps TDC should have an official Facebook page? I see that Jeroen and James are no longer a member of the FB group, pushed or fell I don't know. In saying that, I've posted something that the admin will not like so I might find out soon...

Alun and James have been fired, Jeroen and I quit in protest! Others may follow, but it's a free country (allegedly) My Public resignation attracted a few comments and questions then was removed by site mods. If you don't toe their particular party line, you are history!

James has already set up an OFFICIAL TDC FB page earlier today. Lets see if we can make it better, friendlier and more popular than the one run by certain bigots with an axe to grind against the club!

Like this, When you click on Post reply, a box opens where you can write your comment, just below it on the left you will see a blue box with a P in it, click on that and you can gather images from your computer without going through a hosting site as I have below. I chose 640x 480, lets see how it comes out!

A thumbnail is displayed by default in line, but when you click on it, you then get the full-size picture you uploaded. The script allows full-size in line as well as an option, but thumbnail has been chosen as the preview size, if that's not ideal we could always ask to change it.

If you want to share the full size rather than a preview, then it's best to use the link from the Postimage website. They are not a huge corporation and manage to just about keep the service free by having advertisements on the site and donations.

Coming back to Facebook, cheers for the background Steve, now that I know that people are getting kicked off that Facebook group because just one person effectively controls it, and is having a hissy fit then I'm out as well.

I was not at all happy with the attitude shown in that Facebook thread at all. As I see it, if you want club parts, and you want a 'discount' then you join the club, it's quite simple, and is exactly the way that every Kickstarter project works for example. A club like TDC needs membership income to be able to produce parts for its members using the resources available to it; when that Facebook Group manages to get something remanufactured, I'll reconsider my opinion.
