Dellorto Set up / tuning guide

#1 Post by Aleco »

Hello all,
Whilst battling with what feels like a hundred issues on the car I found some dosh and decided I'd buy myself a set of 45 dellortos for my dolly.
Does anyone have a tuning or set up guide for these? There looks to be a few decent write ups on line but I wondered if any one had any personal advice or a guide they've used and recommend.

Cheers

When I first put 45 Dellortos on my race car, I started with the jetting that Lotus used on their 907 engine (2.2L, 4 cyl one). Trumpets are about 2". Didn't have to change much other than drill out the intermediates as it wouldn't pull well mid range. However, I left this to a professional who knew what he was doing.

I would even dream of putting them on the car until you have it running perfectly on the SUs or whatever you currently have on there. That way when you fit the carbs, any issues must be down to the carbs.

Thanks Geoff.

I'm pretty much down to the carbs now as my problem, I've got the engine running well but the carbs do need an overhaul. The spindles are well past their best. I did look at getting the SUs overhaulled but the cost was well on the way to buying a dellorto set up and the lead time from Burlen was 16 weeks

I've just always fancied a pair of Dellortos! If I didn't buy them now my wife would find another use for the money!

One thing I do remember about dellortos (I had 40's on my zetec) is tahat besides the original non-emission type, there are many many variations, soem are more difficult to set up than others. I was able to get some off an alfa with similar engine power etc, and they just needed the idle jets increasing in size a little. Worth doing your research on which ones you have! Some may not even work with you engine. (Or are these off another sprint that was sorted?)
This is a start point to getting them sorted

I'll have a read through, thank you.

I'm buying my carbs as reconditioned units from Eurocarb (Dellorto uk specialist). I've discussed with them what I'm after and they have come up with their recommendation on jets, chokes etc.

I know they can't promise getting it spot on over the phone but I thinking it's my best chance!
