Axle oil seals, where from?

#1 Post by tony g »

Cheers

Tony

I've never had to replace a diff pinion seal (100898) but have replaced the oil seals at the end of the axle tubes (that keep the oil in the axle) in all my cars. I've used the gearbox nose seal (141756) in place of the standard one and never had a problem since. This is better than the standard one fitted. I've just got these from Rimmers, along with the outer hub seal that requires the bearing to be pressed off to get at.

Thanks Geoff, do you mean the g/box nose seal fits the axle tubes?

Cheers

Tony, Canley Classics have most of the seals on shelf as long as you have the ref number etc, when I did rear hub seal on the 1850 they had all the seals for rear hub and can still collect there as well most days!

Cheers Rich I'll see what I can do locally. The seals appear to be 1.25" x 2.00" x 0,5" so I may try a local bearing/seal place :)

Similar problem is now evident on my Sprint (oil seepage from axle into brake drum) so looking to buy the gearbox nose seal (141756) instead of the proper inner axle hub seal (58800). However, Rimmers don't list the 58800 inner seal (or the 58801 outer seal) but do list two other seals - 109543 (£5.70) and 103811 (£5.26). Which one is which?? Also at this price neither are that much dearer than 141756 as was mentioned earlier
