1300 fwd clutch adjustment

The clutch on my 1300 front-wheel-drive was apparently replaced by the previous owner. He told me that he didn't realise that he had to adjust it after fitting a new plate! So, the pedal has to be pressed right to the floor to get any chance of selecting first and reverse it even more difficult, particularly once the car has warmed up.
I see that I need to adjust it to get a 3mm gap. What do people use to measure this? It may be very obvious once I have taken the cover off, but I would like to have something to hand to measure it with.

When it's apart, it's obvious, you need a piece of 3mm thick card, or similar, to put between the cover plate, and release bearing. You need to cut a u shape out of it to go around the input shaft.

Don't forget to push the slave cylinder back, before adjusting.

PS sometimes, 3mm is too much, don't put it back together, until you've tried it!

Hi Nick, on my 1300fwd I used a 2.0mm rod for the gap, whilst making sure the cylinder piston is right back (as previously stated) and held the bracket in place gripping the rod and then doing the two bolts up. Does help to have two pairs of hands, two in the engine bay and two inside the car. If you have not taken the inside out, then have someone on the drivers side leaning over and holding the rod and keeping the bracket hard against the cylinder piston rod, You can then tighten the nuts from the passenger side which can be quite awkward.

Its a piece of cake, difficult part is taking the clutch cover off!
