Rattles. Please look at the photos

#1 Post by grumpy2 »

Hope I can do the photos anyway

1980 dolomite sprint

Tracing some annoying rattles fron underneath and I've a couple of questions.

First the pads are rattling in the front callipers. There are some sort of anti squeal shims fitted but nothing to stop them rattling. Are there anti rattle anti squeal shims?

Also, the handbrake cables are routed through brackets with no bush/grommet/guide. When the handbrake is off the cables rattle like mad

Nope, can't do the photos

They are anti squeal shims - pull pads out and add a light coating of copper slip paste to etheir side of the shims and refit pads.

As for the handbrake - I would look at the handbrake level mechanism for looseness rather than the handbrake wire cables, there should be bushes within the holes, but not having then fitted should not cause a rattle.

thanks for the reply, the brakes don't squeal, but the 'fitting kit' looks different in the parts book to the ones on my car. The parts book shows shims with sprung arms mine (in the photo) have no arms so rattle.

Didn't the club (or someone in it) get the handbrake cable grommets made a while back?

The anti squeal shims in your pic are NOT the correct ones, I'll have a look round and see if I can find a good used set for you.

thanks Steve,

I'm off to paddocks this morning for some bits and bobs and I think they're that same as herald/spitfire ones so I'll pick a set up from there.
