Not running right
Not running right
I have been out today and the car just isn't running right, when sitting in traffic and it got hot around half way it was spluttering when pulling away, pulling the choke out a bit improved matters, i assume i am running lean, can i use a colour tune, this is the first twin carb setup i have had any pointers, i do have a carb balancer but never used it before.

car is pretty new to me but it is a standard 1500 SE with SU's, runs reasonable when cooler but does have a bit of a flat spot.

Re: Not running right
If it's been set up to pass the MOT, it will be too weak.
Try setting the carbs at the base setting, jets 12 flats of the adjuster, down from the bridge, and see what happens.
Alternatively, where are you based?

Re: Not running right
Pull out the plugs. They should give you an indication of what the mixture is like.
Bruce's suggestion of the 12 flats down is a good place to start with the mixture settings.

Re: Not running right
On a 1500 twin carb engine I suspect you will have waxstats still.
These need to be kept clean and the carb heat shield needs to be in good condition.
12 flats down will give you a decent start point. Sad to say the ADN needles on these are a tad weak. Spits use a richer one but then the
exhaust on a Spit can be a bit free-er flowing.
I'm not one to encourage high revs on a 1500 as the bottom end isn't up to sustained use above 3500 rpm and nor are the valve seats.
Leaning out in hot weather in traffic is a classic waxtstat foible....
