Decided to tart up the slightly rusty steering wheel in my Dolomite 1500.
Rather than risk smacking myself in the face removing the entire wheel and centre boss from the steering mast, I undid the six bolts which connect the spokes to the centre boss. Only slight problem on refitting the wheel is that the workshop manual does not have torque settings for these bolts, although there is a figure for the large centre nut.
Did a similar job without torquing the bolts down on a TR6 a few years ago without any ill-effects, but since I now have a torque wrench it would be good to do the job properly if possible. Any suggestions for this figure?

If the nut at the steering wheel is too tight - it might end up in a drink drive conviction.

Common sense should tell you....size of bolt head, thread and material.
I reckon 20 would be more than enough. Less if bolts and threads are small, like 1/4 unf. I cant remember off hand as I always take the whole wheel off. Comes off fine and wont hit you if you leave the nut on a few threads...

No manufacturer has ever published a torque setting for every fastener on the car. The ones they quote are generally the safety critical ones. For all the others common sense prevails. Small bolts aren't as tight as big ones. Here's a small guide to what is the maximum acceptable for various sizes of thread and various materials.

And Jon is right. To remove the steering wheel, slacken the large nut but leave it on a couple of threads. Then when you break it free from the spline it is prevented from smacking you in the face.
