Whatever is this?

#1 Post by Bumpa »

Checking out the (dodgy) wiring additions under the dash and I found this little plastic box in the feed to the radio. Upon opening it there is a wire wound thing inside. Has anyone any idea what it is, 'cos I've never seen one in over 50 years motoring.

+2 on that. I have just fitted an old sony radio/cassette in my 2500s and it had the same thing on it, as well as a fuse link in the same colour.
Cheers, Tony.

I've seen them before, just never knew what they were for! As a result, they mostly ended up in the bin!

You'll have to let us know if it actually works or is more snake oil for suckers!

In line choke or inductor - purpose to stop the interference from ignition components getting to your ICE.

They do work....

What a great resource these forums (fora??) are. I shall leave the thingy in place then. The car still has a period radio with one speaker centrally at the front and one centrally at the back on the shelf. I've no idea if it all works as it is still out of the car at the moment.

In the good old days of Lucas being owned by Lucas they made these to go with their range of top of the line automotive Audio units (Ok you can stop laughing now), very similar to the one pictured but iirc they were grey or blue in colour.
Some people are like Slinky's, they serve no real purpose in life but bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.
