Front Quarter Windows
Front Quarter Windows
Are the front quarter windows easy to remove and are the rubbers available???
I assume the bottom window rubbers are available for all 4 doors, the external rubbers that sit at the bottom of the windows.

Okay....
Yes, no, yes.
It is easy enough to remove the quarter light glass but seals are not available,
not available ready made that is, it may be possible to adapt T2000(?) rubber for this
but I haven't had cause to try.
The strips for the doors are available from Chris Witor (he also does drop channel rubbers).

I bought the door weather strips from him in July but can't find them on his website now...
The part numbers used were 708907RP and 708908RP (you need two of each). (I didn't buy the
retaining clips because I will try to reuse the ones I have, but Chris sells these too.)

Re: Front Quarter Windows
You will need to buy the retaining clips as well. The strips Chris sells are thicker than the original Dolly strips (where the clips fit). I tried using the original clips but failed.

Thanks for the replies.
Going back to the quarter windows on the front doors, there's some wear, I'll get pics so I do need to sort this - so help will be appreciated.
What's is T2000?

So the T2000 front quarters have the rubbers available?
So they can be made to fit a Dolomite?

Re: Front Quarter Windows
The quarterlight assembly is relatively easy to remove whole, though it means stripping the door. The only thing to watch out for is 2 pop rivets concealed under the door surround strip on the angled front face of the door.
Chris Witor makes and supplies a rubber for the Triumph 2000 quarterlight which is somewhat larger in all dimensions than the Dolomite one, though roughly the correct shape. Whether this can be adapted to fit a Dolomite remains to be seen, I don't know if anyone has been brave enough to try yet! Another point to mention, is that so far, it is not possible to buy the special rivet for the top quarterlight hinge, which needs to be removed to fit the rubber.
On the outer door weatherstrip, I use the one sold by TD Fichetts in Telford for Triumph Spitfire models. These are too long for the Dolomite, so need to be cut down, but they have the big advantage of being original profile with the correct clip rebates in the rear face which makes them MUCH easier to fit with the standard clips.

Re: Front Quarter Windows
Thanks Steve, that helps a lot. I think I'll actually leave the front door quarter lights alone even though they could do with replacing.
I'm about to get the Sprint ready for a full respray and thought it would be the perfect time to do them, but I'll just stick to replacing the other rubbers until such a time as someone braver than me attempts it.

Re: Front Quarter Windows
I used a solid copper rivet, a lot of effort and faffing around, very fiddly to close the rivet without damaging anything, but it did work.
Re: Front Quarter Windows
If anyone has deep pockets (I haven't but I was very tempted as the wind whistles through the gaps on mine) then there is a new driver side seal on eBay at the moment for £88.
The seller (in Barcelona) has quite a few other bits, including a brand new front inner valence, but is also aware of the scarcity of some parts with a list price of £410 including postage for that valence.

Re: Front Quarter Windows
Whistling 1/4 light seals never bother me much as they don't whistle when the 1/4 light is open, which, with me being a smoker, they nearly always are!
I was fortunate enough a couple of years ago, to get a complete NOS O/S 1/4 light assembly in a job lot of parts I bought. I too offered this for sale for a while at £50 on here and got no bites! Then I realized that the one on the Sprint was pretty shot anyway and i'd be better off keeping it! The only snag is that it has clear glass in it and I need to swap it for the Sundym for my Sprint. I got the Sundym one out of the old frame in seconds but the new clear one is stuck fast! I don't want to use TOO much force getting it out for fear of damaging the thin and fragile frame, i'm seriously considering shattering the glass and then fishing out the fragments! It's not as if I don't have half a dozen clear glasses in stock!
