Toledo 1300 clutch kit
As a new member/owner of a Toledo can anyone tell me the correct part number for a clutch kit and is any one supplier better than the others for this part. Thanks

Re: Toledo 1300 clutch kit
It appears to be year dependent. Before 1975 it is the coarse spline input shaft, which Rimmers list as GCK273. Later cars are the fine spline, which is listed as RT1127. I suspect that Spitfire components will also fit, giving you a wide choice of suppliers.Jackinthebox wrote: ↑Thu Nov 16, 2017 10:34 pm As a new member/owner of a Toledo can anyone tell me the correct part number for a clutch kit and is any one supplier better than the others for this part. I don't know which is best I'm afraid. I would be wary of the release bearings that come with these kits, I had two fail on my 1500, so I know the quality of some is awful.

Re: Toledo 1300 clutch kit
Thanks for the reply, I have done some research on the internet and it appears April '75 ish is when the change was made. My car was first registered July '75 so I may wait until I have the old one out to make sure I get the correct one.

Where is reverse?
That will tell you which gearbox you have (sadly I can't remember which way round it is, but somebody will know!)
The early gearbox will use the same clutch as a spitfire 1300. The later one will be a unique kit.
As to quality item, I really like NOS Borg and Beck, but would hesitate to use a newly made one (another company bought the B+B name, now stick it on any old stuff)
Also good are laycock, sachs, LUK and a few others. But a trawl of fleabay can turn up good stuff.

Re: Toledo 1300 clutch kit
If reverse gear is left and forward, it's the early clutch, right and forward is the later type.
Early clutches have a 9 spline centre plate, the later one is 23 spline. This assumes that the car has not been "messed with" previously!
There was a "BSM special" bigger clutch fitted to Toledos sold new to BSM which was effectively a 1500 Spitfire clutch, and this was copied by some people as an upgrade.

Re: Toledo 1300 clutch kit
Thanks again, mine is right and up so it's the later one. Does anyone know if the Spitfire 1500 clutch fits straight in?

Re: Toledo 1300 clutch kit
no,spit 1500 same as dolly 1500 at 7 1/4", yours is 6 1/2
You could fit a spit 1500 flywheel and clutch, straight swap (don't try a dolly 1500 flywheel, as it uses a unique starter motor!)

Very good thanks. It looks like I need a 6 1/2" later type clutch kit. is NOS better for all makes or just B&B.

Re: Toledo 1300 clutch kit
Any of the above makes I mentioned will be fine, if you find one!
Old stock B+B are a bit more common, but you may have to buy it in bits. I got a plate a few years ago for a tenner off ebay. The cover is identical to all spit (except 1500) and herald 1200/1300 (not the coil spring type, looks very different) Plate is unique I think, bearing used in most Triumphs.
There is a NOS unipart cover on fleabay at the moment, that should be B+B.
And best to use plate/cover from same manufacturor (ask me how I know!)

Thanks again. At least I know now what I'm after, just a question of finding one!
