Sprint timing chain with split link?

#1 Post by tony g »

Ive got a used but new looking timing chain with a split link in there. Any horror stories with these or know who sold/sells them?

Cheers

I dont know of anyone that sells them? But in the old days they were all like that
The only thing you had to be wary of was to get the link clip the right way.
It is also possible (with care) to change the chain without stripping the engine down :D

It's possible to replace the chain, etc., without stripping the engine down even if there's no split link. The only real difficulty I remember from doing it - more than once over the years - was not screwing up the front part of the sump gasket putting the chain cover back on.

The 16v Slant 4 engine is more fun than the 3.5 V8, because you mostly drive it on the upslope of the torque curve.

Factory 1977 TR7 Sprint FHC VVC 697S (Now all of, but still needs putting together)
B&Y 73 Dolomite Sprint UVB 274M (kids!)
1970 Maroon 13/60 Herald Convertable (wife's fun car).
