Woodhead rear shock absorber fitting

I have acquired a pair of Sprint ( apparantly ) rear shock-absorbers, and springs, brand new, never been fitted.
Slight problem. The springs look O.K. and are stamped "4685" with an orange plus a white paint stripe and the dampers themselves are stamped "08950X". But I can't find the application in the Woodhead listing.
The "slight" problem is that instead of having a lower spring seat welded on they have just 2 aluminium split collars that fit in a groove. And the spring lowest coil is far to large to sit on this.
Either these are not Sprint or there is a bit missing.
Any ideas please ?

The loose seat pans are missing. They sit on the aluminium collars, and the spring pressure keeps it all in place.
You may get lucky and somebody have some plates or old knackered shocks with the same size plates....

Hi Clive, Thanks very much for the info; Guess what, in another box I found 2 black metal collars that fit over the collets and are the same diameter as the spring. They seem to work very much in the same way as cylinder head valve spring collets. I've not seen this sort of fitment before and TBH I'd prefer a welded solution but they were a free-bee. When the frost has disappeared I'll get them fitted.

Ive seen this type before Tony and they are very safe to use. Good make is Woodhead

But watch out for the genericblack shocks with a woodheadlabel randomly stuck on them. They are in teh same category as the new Borg and Beck clutches/brakes and Lucas boxed stuff. As in made by a cheapo supplier and then branded up with a name that used to be trustworthy.
(old Woodhead, B+B, Lucas etc stuff is good though)

Re the shocks, plenty turn up cheap missing the collars etc, and are worthless as they can't be used. A trader was a bit miffed at the restoration show when I asked to open a box of 2 new rear shocks. He rattled the box, said all teh bits were inside. I checked, there was an assortment of collars and spring seats, none fitted the shocks. He then is desperation suggested I could use my old ones. Just not worth the risk...... But as lo9ng as the sping is compressed a bit when fitted to the shock, they are fine. Not so good if the spring sits loose in the shock!
