Sprint rear wheel bearings, decent brands?

#1 Post by tony g »

I need to change one of the rear bearings and only brand I keep seeing is KOR. These have a pretty terrible name on other forums (minis etc) and are clearly inferior off shore bearings.
Do we have any known sources for proper bearings? (i believe Timken are mostly counterfeit copies these days)

Cheers

Are they 2585 - 2520, Tapered Roller Bearings ? I think that's the bearing in GHK1144.

I'm pretty sure the cone is 2585, but the cup could be either 2520 or 2523
2520 has an o/d of 2.6150 in
2523 has an o/d of 2.7500 in

It would be great to find out which set it is.
(I've been compiling a list for generic bearing numbers vs Triumph part numbers to help find quality parts)

Edit: The picture on rimmer's website shows the cup as timken p/n 2523S, so the set required should be 2585/2523
So genuine timken are available but not cheap!

The 2585 cone looks like a flanged type. Is this correct for us?

Chris Witor sells the correct Timken bearings. SKF bearings are also good quality, though Timken preferred.

Thanks Mark, I may have some coming from a supplier. SKF would be ok too I reckon. Sort of makes me wonder why a normal ball bearing cant be used like a lot of RWD cars used

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but looking in the Timken catalogue at 2585/2523s, whilst it looks like the one in the rimmer pic and has the correct od and id of 2.75" and 1.31", it's being shown as being nearly an inch thick (.9975)..this can't be right can it? They look a lot thinner on rimmers....
Come and see some pretty shoddy, slow driving of a really well prepared competition Sprint here!
