Hi all,
Most of the Dolomite dashboards I've seen have the smiths "needle points upwards" gauge with the half V bezel, blackened except the chrome edge. But a small number of them seem to have a fully blackened bezel and the "needle points downward" style.
Where the second type standard on the early production cars? Any idea at what point they changed over?
Or have the small number I've seen just been fitted with replacements of a different style?

The stag used both type's of gauges needle pointing up or down,the early stags had needles pointing down,they changed over 1973/1974, seeing as British Leyland was a parts factory,
they were properly used on other models as well

Okay....
The change in instrument style took place in 1973.
Early 1850s had the same style as Stags and 2.5PIs of this vintage.
All Sprints had the later type.
This is slightly before the "rationalisation" that took place across the Triumph range,
resulting in such things as the use of SU carbs in place of Strombergs on 1850s and the discontinuation of the P.I. system.
