Ah, that is easier!
I have heard, and seen, VERY good thins about Falken sn832.
I will explain. Most tyres are OK tootling about (as long as tyres are not old or the very cheap nasty type) What is usually a problem is when things go pear-shaped, ie a corner that is slippery.
I have seen the Falkens used on Triumphs on a wet trackday. They held on way better than my goodyears when the chap was cornering, and he is somebody I greatly respect. He also used them on the CT 10 countries run, and was very positive about them.
Downside is they are a little soft, so won't last as well as a hard compound tyre. But on our cars you should be getting 15-20K out of them. And by that time it may be time to replace anyway.... (my Michelins are cracking up at 6 years old, but car is left outside, and sunlight contributes heavily to the tyre ageing)

My other options (I am looking too) are uniroyal rainexperts. Again a good rain tyre. But I am thinking the Falkens may be the ones...

Sorry guys my post really was lacking some detail wasnt it!

So basically my predicament is - I need to replace all 4 tyres on my Sprint wheels. I dont really want to spend over £200 for a set of 4 and i would like the original size of 175/70/13.

I can see there are plenty of tyres available in this Tyre size, However im unsure what would be best suited to my 1500 HL in terms of tread pattern & handling etc.

The big problem folk are having is with Sprint wheels actually fitted to a Sprint, since OE on a Sprint was 175/70/HR/13. it's the H rating that causes the problem as very few companies still make this tyre with this speed rating and they are expensive. Since you "only" have a 1500HL which had an OE requirement of S rating or better, you have a MUCH wider choice! Though TBH, you're not going to find anything decent for much less than £40 a corner.

I like the look of the Falkens, The car will only do about 2K miles a year so premature wear doesn't bother me too much. In regards to the speed rating the car will not ever go over 70MPH so its a little irrelevant also.

The issue is not how fast you intend to drive, but how fast the car COULD go given its head. This was a problem when I had a Lotus Elan Sprint. Because of the potential top speed of the car it needed H rated tyres (max speed 130 mph), but to get those in 155/80 x 13 is nearly impossible. A lot of owners fitted T rated tyres (max speed 118 mph) and in the UK that shouldn't ever be an issue, except that it is theoretically against the law. However, for your 1500 the S rated tyre (max speed 112 mph) should be fine.

I have used the Avon's on my MGB for several years . Although I have 175/65 x 15 on the B they are the same as the 13inch. Decent grip and quiet. Cooper tyres have an exact version ( they own Avon ). About £45 fitted for the 175/60 13r Avon's. Plus they are made in Britain and look good.

I fitted a new set of 175/70x13 Yokohama's to my Sprint several years ago. They have an 82Kg weight and H speed rating.
I find them to be really good steer-ers and wear-ers, but they do suffer from harshness if over-inflated even just a little.
I bought them because several of the car club sporting guys, lap dashers and hill climbers love them. Now I can see why they do.

There are tyre size calculators available on line. Here's one http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyre-size-calculator/

Put in the standard tyre size and your proposed new size and it will tell you the difference in diameter both as mm and as a percentage. So if the new tyre is 5% smaller than the original, your speedo will read 5% fast. Simples.

I measured the diameter of the 175/60 Avon and the 155 goodyear tyres , not very scientific with a tape measure but 22 inches for part worn 155 and 22 1/4 inches for the 175/60 . Checked the speedo against a GPS and the figures look the same to me, The Dolly over reads by about 3mph on both.

I notice there are some references here stating that tyres are just black and round. That is just like saying a car is a car, and if you want to buy on price a 2CV is cheaper.

Tyres make a massive differenece to handling. It is worth spending a few more bob to buy a tyre that is builty to compliment your chassis.
