I have a question about the steering clamp bolt. Long story short; after doing some work on the clamp and then driving the car I had, ahem, a large washer fall on my foot. It’s centre dia is the same as the steering clamp bolt and while I would normally have expected to remove the bolt assy easily and carefully I did have an unusually difficult time punching out the bolt retaining pin.
I think the washer slid off and got caught on something before falling to the floor later. There’s no washer shown in either of the manuals I have though, but it seems highly unlikely the washer came from anywhere else.
So the questions is : does the washer go on the bolt head side or the steering column adjuster handle side?
I’m assuming the former meaning the retaining pin will need to be punched out again…….

Re: Steering Column clamp
Thee official parts book shows a washer fitted under the steering clamp, the bit you turn to tighten the arrangement up.

Hi Richard
So just to be super clear the washer is on the threaded end of the bolt under the black T-shaped handle used by the driver to adjust the steering column?
thks

Re: Steering Column clamp
Yes that is correct.
Re: Steering Column clamp
Then that will truly be an easy fix. I'd assumed it was there to spread the load on the other side. Thanks
Re: Steering Column clamp
Its shown in the factory parts manual, locates where Richard said.
