1500/1500HL owners did you know this or can you explain the reason for it.

For everything to do with Dolomites, Toledos, FWD cars and Dolomite-based kitcars.

1500/1500HL owners did you know this or can you explain the reason for it.

#1 Post by Richard the old one »

I just happened to be looking at the Triumph Dolomite Range 1976 onwards Parts catalogue as you do on a cold winters afternoon and I noticed that on page, 1M 02R, Cooling system – Radiator -1500-1500HL it shows plates either side of the radiator, Parts XKC1290 & XKC129, which I am assuming were there to force air though the radiator but it does state 1500 LL ONLY NOT HL.

Typo as there isn't an LL.

I thought somebody in the club was looking at having them remanufactured as I am sure I put my name down for some for my 1300.

What I would like to find out is why was the decision made NOT to fit them to 1500HL cars and possibly the 1500 cars when they are fitted to 1300 engines.

Is there a case for having them fitted to 1500/1500HLs?

the only thing you can do is try it,i only took mine off so i could flatten them as they were deformed, straight now after water`d and heavy weight, just need to make frame to support the boards

Hi

I don't have them on my 1500TC, and thrashing it about in all weather, I have had no issues.

The 1300 has a smaller radiator, same width, less height. That might be it?

Just checked my 1980 HL which is very original and it doesn't have them as mentioned above. I would think that baffles are only needed in hot climates, perhaps BL started to stop fitting unnecessary parts in an effort to save money.
