I lost a treasured friend today
The Retriever who used to lay
Her gentle head upon my knee
And shared her silent thoughts with me.
She’ll come no longer to my call
Retrieve no more her favourite ball
A voice far greater than my own
Has made her go on, alone.
Although my eyes are filled with tears
I’m thankful for all those happy years
She spent living here with me
And for her love and loyalty.
When it’s time for me to go
And join her there, I know
I shall not fear the transient dark
For she will greet me with a bark.

I lost a Treaured Friend Today
Re: I lost a Treaured Friend Today
Always a sad loss.
My fox terrier died last February after 14 happy years together. He was extremely agile and ran, not walked, everywhere. He ran and played with 2 big German Shepherds and easily held his own when the play got rough (by staying under a bush where they could not get him). In the end he was half blind and totally deaf but his sense of smell pulled him through. On the Sunday afternoon we had a cuddle together with him being wrapped in a blanket as he looked tired and could not stand for long. The day after I found him dead in his favourite patch of grass, curled up as if he was sleeping.
I'd like to think that his last thoughts were peaceful

Re: I lost a Treaured Friend Today
I feel your pain. I lost my Border Collie 3 years ago at the relatively young age of 5 years.

Very sad.... Feel for you, I'm on Springer Spaniel number 7 and always say no more but keep getting sucked back in and getting another, we usually have 2 at a time so when one goes the one left seems to help deal with the big cloud of sadness but the pain although eases never does go away, thinking of each and every one of them, all with their own little habits still brings a tear to my eyes.
Thoughts are with you
