Piston Ring Gap
What should the piston ring gap be on the top & second rings on a Sprint? I'm looking in the 'operations repair manual' and I can see the diagram but it says "refer to data". I've looked at the data but I can't see anything related.

Re: Piston Ring Gap
Hi Mart, I have the AKM3629 manual dated 1977 and the Data is squirreled away on Page 12-5
But to answer your question ...
The Top compression ring gap is given as 0.0138 to 0.0217 in
The Scraper ring gap is given as 0.0138 to 0.0217 in ( the same )
Oil control chrome rail is given as 0.015 to 0.055 in
Oil control expander rail gap is "Ends to butt"
Let me know if you would like a scan of these pages.
HTH,
Tony.

Re: Piston Ring Gap
The best is to have the second ring slightly wider gap as the top ring.

Re: Piston Ring Gap
Thanks Tony/Jeroen.
I had found those figures (even in the Haynes manual on page 49) but wasn't sure that the "fitted gap" was what I was looking for. I thought they were referring to the tolerance in the piston groove height.
