Been trying to sort out my ever so slightly annoying hesitancy on my Tolly, Last weekend I changed back to a NOS Mechanical fuel pump, Today I have checked Timing, Valve clearances, New Bosch Plugs, New Dizzy cap, Also re torqued the head after doing the head gasket not long ago. Earlier in the week Bruce tweaked the carb for me and it runs a lot better but although not as obvious or regular it's still there! You can rev through it and it disappears, it's almost like when the cars not fully warmed and you've pushed choke in. Fuel lines are clear and little pipe from fuel tank is clear as advised to check by Carledo at NEC a couple of weeks ago. Running electronic ignition starts and idles perfectly, Plugs I removed today were a good colour. Got me puzzled just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem at any time. Should it have a heat shield installed like my Dolly 1500, as there isn't one present?
Question 2, Some Rot around headlights so presuming headlight panels required but are they the same panels regardless of whether there square headlights or twin round ones? Also couldn't work out how to remove the square headlights, but I was a tad cheesed off by then!

So you have a little "flat spot". Having eliminated (more or less) fuel (if Bruce has been there) time probably to have a look at the distributor internals, not the ignition system electronics, but the bobweights and vac advance unit. Sticky weights or a punctured vac diaphragm could give the symptoms. There is no heat shield on the single carb engine as OE but fitting one couldn't hurt with modern fuel.
The headlight panels are model specific for single or twin headlight cars, but the club can supply either. to remove square headlights, remove the grilles, undo 3 tiny screws per light and remove the bezels, then unplug and remove the light units. The lamp looms can then be unplugged from the master loom and finally, drill out 4 large pop rivets on each plastic "bucket" to remove the lamp bodies.

is the small black vacuum pipe from carb to dizzy there are not split, also check in the dark see if the leads are arcing.
As for heatshield I'd say yes as the carbs are very close to the exhaust and I know that some toledos did have them from factory but opinions seem to differ as one of the parts books don't show a heatshield.

I would agree with this. my Dolomite 1300 has had a flat spot for 6 years, not amount of tuning would resolve it. Then last week I had issues and the engine kept cutting out , no power etc. I changed fuel pump, coil and finally replaced the old dizzy with Accuspark module with a new dizzy with points.
it sorted my cut out problems but also resolved the flat spot.
