Just trying the Sprint wheels (no tyres as yet) on my 1850HL and I wonder if there will be rubbing issues on the rear inner wheel arch. There is a sort of thicker piece on the inner arch, presumably for strength, and I could imagine the tyre being very close to it. I know the genuine Sprint used a different axle. Was it a wee bitty bit wider than the standard 1850 axle?
I would like to go with original size Sprint tyres, 175/80 x 13, but these aren't common now. I suppose most people use 175/70 x 13 and put up with the speedo error which will be around 6% fast.

There should be no rubbing issues with sprint wheels on a 1850 , the original tyres fitted to a sprint are 175/70/13 and not 175/80/13Bumpa wrote: ↑Mon May 07, 2018 3:26 pm Just trying the Sprint wheels (no tyres as yet) on my 1850HL and I wonder if there will be rubbing issues on the rear inner wheel arch. The sprint axle is apparently a bit wider. But there are loads of non-sprints around with sprint wheels and 175/70 tyres, so it can't be an issue. (he says.....I had 165/70 on sprint alloys on my Toledo, never an issue)

That's interesting. I didn't think there were many lower profile tyres about in 1973.

You'll need a set of early Sprint wheel nuts with 3/8" thread. As it happens, I'll be listing a set of such items made of steel in Jon Tilson's things shortly...
Re: Sprint wheels on a 1977 1850HL
Thanks everyone. I already have the special 3/8" nuts. Steel ones from Rimmers.

Re: Sprint wheels on a 1977 1850HL
When my son had an 1850 auto, he borrowed my spare set of Sprint alloys and fitted 185.70x13 tyres (so fatter than standard). Ran those for a few years without any issues whatsoever.
