Sprint valve seals

#1 Post by mahony »

Just been dismantling a scrap sprint head ( warped :( :( ) to salvage the valves collets collars rockers etc and found the inlet valves had valve stem seals fitted ( much bigger than the exhaust seals ), I cannot find any parts manual that show valve stem seals for the inlet valves, anyone else seen this :?: :?:

Valve stem seals weren't fitted to the inlets, only exhausts.
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years. :boggle2: ... Still Sprintless.

Engines, Gearboxes, Overdrives etc. rebuilt. PM me.

odd this as I would have thought you fit oil seals to inlets, otherwise the oil enters the cylinder via the inlet valve and burns giving a blue exhaust.

My Audi 100 has them on the inlets and I know when they need replacing!

Yeah I am perplexed by the fitting of valve stem seals to a sprint head as they have the cam buckets above , the seals fitted where larger than the exhaust ones, maybe someone being extra cautious and probably from another model , I guess I will never know as the head was from a job lot from Ebay some years back ( which also came with ST Hs8's :) ).

I have heard of this before but not sure where the seals came from. I think those that did fit them were either being overly cautious, ignorant of the standard spec or just trying to camouflage another issue with the valves or guides.
