Engine judder poor acceleration.
Engine judder poor acceleration.
Fitted a new distributor and electronic ignition, my timing was 4 degrees after TDC it is now back to 10 degrees before TDC my problem is it still runs poorly hard to start and when I accelerate it sort of judders I have had a couple of short runs but its just not right, ideas, please.

Cheap Chinese distributor? £23 ignition unit? Before I go on about my loathing for them, how was it running beforehand? What engine are you working with?

I've moved the thread here because it is a technical question.
to the OP: Have you tried advancing the timing. 10 degrees before TDC is just a starting point and was for 4 star petrol. What grade of fuel are you using? It might run better with 98 RON fuel such as Shell V Power.

Sounds like its running on 3 cylinders. If it idles pull the plug leads of the plugs one at a time and see if theres one cylinder that doesnt change ie doesnt reduce rpm. If you find a suspect cylinder check the plug and lead to it and maybe do a compression tesat with all plugs removed (remove + leads from the coil for that test)

What colour are the plugs after it's been running? Are any of them wet? Black? Clean?
