1300/1500 Clutch Slave Cylinder
Re: 1300/1500 Clutch Slave Cylinder
I use a small metal bar and G clamp, holding it by hand won't work.

Re: 1300/1500 Clutch Slave Cylinder
So I got my new Slave and upon attempted fitting there is a problem. The thread where the clutch pipe screws in is Considerably smaller than the original (I'm guessing) That I took off. Been to Pirtek and Hyphose but they had nothing that would work..any suggestions?

Original is 7/16 and new one 3/8 UNF.

Hi Tony, Only problem is that with the curvature on the clutch pipe, if you cut the flare off to re-flare with another union, there's not enough pipe to be able to get a flaring tool on it!

I've used them before.

Re: Here you go........
I bought this earlier but thread isn't long enough as screws all the way into slave with no resistance so no seal in all likelyhood! Thread length on this is 10mm but that's just the thread.sprint95m wrote: ↑Mon Jul 02, 2018 6:14 pm https://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/ ... unf-female

Will message or phone them tomorrow to see if I can get more precise information. Thanks for the link Ian

Aye....
You need a copper washer to form the seal between the cylinder and the adapter.

Next time we’ll check everything AND the Union thread size! Evidently the numbers are the casting number and bore, but not the part number....
Re: 1300/1500 Clutch Slave Cylinder
No problem Alun, think I'm almost sorted now, and will still be better than some of the remanufactured ones which are failing after short periods.

Adaptor arrived from Car Builders solutions this morning, looks like it will work but haven't got a copper crush washer that small! I do however have a Hydraulic Dowty washer in this size, do you think it will seal ok?

Re: 1300/1500 Clutch Slave Cylinder
Plan on fitting and bleeding and hopefully using the car tomorrow, I have a copper washer or a Dowty seal, which should I use as only want to do it once? Anyone used these hydraulic seals before for car stuff?
Thanks Rich

Re: 1300/1500 Clutch Slave Cylinder
So fitted and bled the new slave..bled perfectly and installed with a lot of persuasion and Bruce's guidance, only to discover that there is still not enough travel in the pedal. Master cylinder repair kit is the next port of call. Reason for the replacement of the slave was that it was so corroded into the housing on the cap and when I finally managed to free off the cap the piston was definitely stuck in the bore! Also removed master at the same time slave was removed and everything seemed to be moving freely but something amiss somewhere!
